My journey
- Financial Planning Certificate (CertPFS)
My first role in financial services was working for Commercial Union. I worked four years in the ‘Old Code’ department which dealt with the administration and paying out of pre-1970 pension schemes. It was very different to the way things work today with all member and plan information being handwritten onto small postcard-sized record cards kept in huge filing cabinets.
After four years, I moved into a sales support role at Skandia Life which gave me a foundation of knowledge for the many different types of financial products that we arrange today.
After leaving Skandia I worked with two other Financial Planning businesses as a Paraplanner before joining CBW Financial Planning in 2006.
My role involves assisting the Financial Planners in client meetings, writing a variety of different types of reports, researching products, and liaising with product providers.
What I enjoy most about my job
Everyone at CBW is so friendly. I think this rubs off on our clients too, many of whom have worked with us for many years. Also, the variety of work. No two days are ever the same with every client situation being completely different.
About me
A long walk with dinner in a sunny beer garden.
I’m not really into sports but my son is a keen rugby player, so I obviously support him.
Anywhere with a quiet beach and an ice-cold cocktail.
Getting a seat on the train in the morning. (It doesn’t take much to make me happy.)
I went to Vegas about 15 years ago and I’ve been planning to return ever since.
That tomorrow isn’t guaranteed so, by all means, plan for the future, but don’t forget to live for today.
My nan always told me as a child “If you look after the pennies the pounds look after themselves.” It is very true.
There is always plenty of cake.
