I have been a financial adviser of some sort for almost the entirety of my career. Our industry has become a profession during that time, and I now specialise in financial planning. This is where financial advice is at its most impactful, as the focus is firstly on the lives of clients, and then helping them manage their capital accordingly. Helping families use their capital well, often involves transferring wealth, and therefore multi-generational strategies are at the core of what I do.

In much the same way as a yacht has a skipper, the relationship I have with the families I look after is similar. The family choose their destination, I help them set the course, they can relax while I get them safely to where they want to be.

What I enjoy most about my job

My job has the perfect balance of being predominantly about relationships, but with plenty of technical and academic aspects to stretch the grey matter.

About me

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?

I’m happiest wielding spanners around classic cars and bikes. I collect records and always have music playing.

Do you support any teams?

I was born an Arsenal fan and lived less than half a mile from Highbury. I left football behind when I found rugby. These days I prefer motorsports, but don’t have any loyalty to any team.

What’s your favourite part of the world?

I’ll let you know. It’s a big place and I’m still looking. So far, it’s the Peloponnese.

What one thing can instantly make your day better?

A walk with a happy dog.

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

Accelerated Freefall Skydiving Course. If it doesn’t go well, it could be the top and bottom!

What’s the most valuable thing you’ve learnt doing your job?

The value of money is in its utility, not its mass. Lots of money, if not used well, has little value.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“You don’t know what you don’t know”. That has kept me curious and sceptical. This makes learning fun and something I’ll do forever. Every day is a school day.

What do you like about working for CBW Financial Planning?

The experts here are always impressively smart.
