Every couple of years, the CBW team collectively chooses a charity, which is close to the hearts of the firm. The team then participates in a range of challenges and events to raise awareness and funds for each nominated charity, and from 2020 to March 2022, CBW’s chosen charity was the North London Hospice. The North London Hospice was chosen by CBW, to support colleague, Dan Howarth, whose father was cared for by the hospice during the last few months of his life. The care the hospice gave to Pete Howarth, and crucially to his family as well, was overwhelming. The CBW team, clients and friends of the firm, raised over £37k through a multitude of fundraising activities to include bake offs, raffles, fancy dress, quizzes, and a wonderful team of 10 who completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.

“North London Hospice exists to enable the best of life, at the end of life, for everyone. Our specialist clinical team works together to provide palliative care and support, when and where it’s needed most. We care for more than 3,500 people a year who are living with a life-limiting illness in Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey. We are with people throughout their journey, offering a diverse range of physical, emotional, and spiritual care to patients. We also support their families, friends and carers throughout this difficult time with the help of our bereavement and social work teams.

As a charity, our work is only possible thanks to our community’s generosity; they provide the majority of the £13m annual operating costs, which is essential in enabling us to provide all our care completely free of charge. Since 2022, everyone at Carter Backer Winter LLP has been an integral part of this support. From the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, to quiz nights and office fundraising, you’ve raised an incredible £37,091.76!
